Tom Miller’s final building

This is a structure found in Wagon Mound Colorado. It was some kind of bulk oil distributor or something. Regardless of what the function was; it is a very cool little building and the tanks on the property just add to its appeal. When I saw this place I determined that it would look great on Tom’s  Fn3 layout in Oregon.

The basic building was an easy build. The dimensions were changed a bit to fit the space. It is sided with Sodder’s corrugated material.  The tricky part was all the piping.

I wasn’t going to do the outhouse, but Joe Crea insisted that the yellow privy with the red roof would be a great accent to the main building.  He was, of course, right about that. Joe has an eye for such detail.

I went a little overboard and built the tanks with a lot more detail then the prototype tanks have, but I couldn’t resist the fun. The tanks are from Bachmann tank car kits.

One of the more interesting details around this building was a “Rube Goldberg” pump/piping thing off the dock in the weeds. I think it pumped oil from the tanks to the loading pipes on the dock.

The four photos above were taken by Tom Miller after he installed and put scenery around the complex. He also added a few extra details that bring the entire scene to life.
